Shelford RoadSingapore2024

Designed by JYYJ Associates

A full renovation of a condominium apartment for a music- and bicycle-loving couple, Shelford Road combines Japanese restraint with the warmth and character of mid-century modern design. We reorganised the original two-bedroom, two-bathroom plan into a one-bedroom home with a study, an enlarged open kitchen, and a generous combined bathroom — a layout built around how the couple actually lived, rather than how the unit was originally divided. Retained marble flooring runs against bespoke birch plywood joinery throughout, the same material carried from low-slung media cabinetry into full-height sliding doors and shelving elsewhere in the home. Integrated vinyl storage, a retractable cinema screen, and a short-throw Leica projector sit alongside wall-mounted bicycle storage, embedding both owners' interests directly into the architecture rather than treating them as add-ons. Above the listening area, angled acoustic panels finished in olive fabric quietly manage sound while reading as a considered design feature in their own right. The result is a home that feels distinctly personal — warm, tactile, and organised around the couple's passions as naturally as it is around daily life.
